LAS VEGAS (March 20, 2009) – With several clients suffering from a slow down in consumer spending, The Idea Factory implemented an aggressive door hanger campaign, a tried but true grass roots marketing tactic. Both client and agency expectations were reasonable, 10% response rate during the distribution period. The actual redemption rate was phenomenal. Business owners began reporting redemption the first day of the campaign and a redemption rate of 35% by the end of the first week.

The door hangers featured a single advertiser and were printed on a heavy, coated paper stock. Each was colorful and included compelling incentives to instigate consumer response. The ‘installers’ were formally trained about the product they were advertising, and very friendly with outgoing personalities. Not your typical door hanger candidates. Each campaign concentrated within a 3-mile radius of the business.

Door hanging is an old tactic that follows traditional direct marketing principals. “The key,” says Jan Scarborough, Principal of The Idea Factory, “is to get the right content into the right place to the right person.” Neighborhood deli’s, dry cleaners and most strip-mall merchants are there to serve only their immediate trade area. The Idea Factory’s research has shown that door hangers typically make it into the residence vs. a direct mail piece, which is often thrown right into the trash can with junk mail.
